Jonesboro is a city in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. The city is the county seat of Clayton County. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 4,103. The city is home to Clayton State University and Spivey Hall.

Jonesboro was founded in 1823 as the seat of Clayton County. The city was named for Judge Augustin S. Clayton. The city was originally developed as a cotton plantation, but the coming of the railroad in 1843 led to a rapid expansion of the city.

Jonesboro is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, about 25 miles south of Atlanta. The city is home to a number of historical sites, including the Historic Jonesboro Courthouse, the Stately Oaks Plantation, and the Road to Tara Museum.
