Kennesaw is a city located in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 29,783.

The city is located in the foothills of the Cumberland Plateau, which Kennesaw State University and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park are both named for.

The city’s history dates back to the early 19th century, when it was founded as a small settlement known as Big Shanty. The city grew rapidly following the arrival of the Western and Atlantic Railroad in 1842.

During the American Civil War, Kennesaw was the site of a major battle, now known as the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. In 1887, the city was renamed Kennesaw, after the nearby mountain.

The city is home to a number of businesses and attractions, including the Kennesaw State University Owls, the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, and the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
